You just never know

I was on a lunch break from a class. I had a few minutes and ran to the library. I wanted to pick up a reserved book before I left town.  I planned to run in for two minutes.  I have done this many times.

I was standing at the check out machine which was broken. A  librarian came up to help. She took me to the front desk.

In the meantime we started talking and found out we had a lot in common. She saw the book I was going to check out and recommended and reserved one she thought I would want. She helped me with a new library card I desperately needed and showed me how to use the library app and not even need my card.

She also invited me to a yoga/meditation class the following week at the library. I was delighted and put it on my calendar.

Then a family walked into the library lobby.  A two-year old in his PJ’s proudly told the librarian, “I read two sentences in my book.” It was adorable. I jokingly asked if next time I came in I could report on my reading progress. She said, “For sure!”

We then talked about all the books we checked out but didn’t read. She pulled up an article on how to learn what a book is about without reading it. Fascinating. It was a fun trip to the library.

I planned on two minutes and I was there about twenty – every minute was well worth it. I was delighted and surprised.  When was the last time you let yourself be delighted or enjoyed being surprised?
