I forgot I was human this weekend…

I found myself thinking, “I have so much to be grateful for, I’m not allowed to be stressed.” Whaaaaat does that even mean??

I am human, we are human –  stress is part of the package.

In fact, there are two types of stress: “good stress” (it motivates us – think final exams) and “bad stress” (it causes anxiety and health concerns).

Stress is basically a burst of energy that can guide us to our next action or in-action. It can also be a warning sign.

We live in a culture that encourages stress, yet preaches it is not a good thing, and then inundates us with ways to reduce stress.  There are many opinions on this.

I had decided it wasn’t okay for me to be stressed this weekend.

Then I got coached. (Yes, many coaches get coached regularly to keep our minds clear for our clients and ourselves.)

I was offered the idea that when I tell myself, “I can’t be stressed,” I can separate the contraction “can’t” to the original meaning “can not”.  What if instead I told myself, “I can, not be stressed”?

After coaching I looked at my situation, and realized that not being stressed was an option I had not allowed myself to see in the moment.
