Caregiver Lesson of the Day
Have you heard the expression, “We teach what we need to learn”? I find myself in that dilemma today.
Today I find myself procrastinating. Instead of doing what I need to do, I do other things, “productive” things that I think are helping me reach my goal (researching, writing, asking others for info). I am taking “passive” action.
These tasks are keeping me from MASSIVE action. Massive action is taking steps regardless of failure, taking steps that keep me going until I reach my goals. These are often risky things that do not feel comfortable, out of our comfort zone.
For example, one client knows she needs help with her spouse, and admits she can’t keep doing it all. She spends time complaining to her friends, looking for help, researching online, thinking about it, and talking herself out of it. She convinces herself she is “working on getting help”, this is passive action.
What would massive action look like? Making calls, setting up consults – more than one is often needed, finding someone she can work with and making a schedule so she can actually take breaks? Simple, not always easy.
As humans we like to take passive action, often for months or years even. Sometimes we even make that first call and when it doesn’t work out perfectly the first time, we quit. Our brains like to keep us safe.
What massive action are you taking today? I will figure out how to pay my quarterly business taxes for the first time with the IRS and State of Colorado. I will stop thinking about it, adding it to my list, researching and asking others for information. You get the drift.
If you want help taking massive action for you or on behalf of your loved one, reach out for a free mini session, I would love to chat with you.
