Is it possible there is one last lesson for you on this caregiving journey?
Many of you are feeling exhausted and burned out caring for a close relative who may not be here much longer.
A client told me the other day she is “barely hanging on” as she cares for her mom with cancer while trying to maintain her career in mid-life.
You did not necessarily sign up for this job or excitedly volunteer, I know.
And many of you have told me you have gained greater stamina, strength, flexibility, compassion and problem-solving skills through the process.
One client who is caring for her elderly spouse with dementia shared that instead of getting mad at having to dress and undress him daily, she is using some of her previous kindergarten teaching skills with him. She has turned the process into a game. She takes his clean adult diaper and puts it on his head and his socks on his ears and sings. They both laugh and suddenly there is a lightness in the routine.
Is it possible there may be at least one last lesson for you on this journey?
